WOW --- very cool to see Julie's words on my blog. Julie is a superstar teacher, just in case any of you folk in class or elsewhere are reading right now, and she's one of my outside readers. OK, so let's call Julie by her official name, Dr. Jung, cuz she teaches in English at Illinois State University and she's got a book coming out. I like what Julie said about feeling weird posting on my blog, kinda like opening up someone else's journal and just starting to write with your purple pen when all the other writing is in blue...or something like that. Also, Julie's post is definitely written to me as a friend, and so she might not want to keep the post up for the whole world to see. Or maybe she will. That's some of the tricky stuff with all this blogging -- points a couple people in this class have already mentioned. The private nature of journals, the public noise of blogs.
I also just finished reading ALL the blogs linked here and am about to inaugurate a piece of writing I hope to do once a week called "Shattuck's Weekly Blog Riff." So listen up y'all:
- JT, I really like your idea of a "me" day -- and also, ya gotta quit bothering Jermisha and Shannon (but maybe not, since I laughed while reading)
***voice of stern English teacher sounds through megaphone: "You may NOT write things like 'ya gotta' and 'y'all.' You are an English teacher and must model proper diction." I put on my headphones and turn up the volume on Zaghareed, my El-Funoun CD.***
- Mel, what does "s.o.l." mean? I think it might stand for some cuss words.
- any further teaching on revision will be done by Joey, who has some first-class tips on how to revise
- Misha, where do you get those cool quotes at the end of each of your blog posts? And also, QUIT YELLING< YOU'RE GIVING ME A HEADACHE! (using capital letters in cyberspace is considered yelling) I also really like where you say you're not ashamed of your misspelling. That's like one of the guidelines for timed writing practice - don't worry about punctuation, spelling, capitalization.
***megaphone-face butts in again: "Shattuck, have you lost your mind? You are going to lose your job saying, 'Hey, it's all right. Word spelled wrong... who cares? Comma where you need a semi-colon? Ain't no thang. ...You see? You're infecting me!!! I just said....'ain't!'"***
- Tuwanna, your first post reads "I love you." Um. Who? To whom do you refer? Just curious.
- Phantane, I laughed when you mentioned your discipline's journal and then said "I enjoy reading it (NOT)."
- And finally, the tie winners of my favorite blog names are Antonio for "blogg this" and Gumpboy (sorry, I didn't get your name on your blog address paper) for "How to Do an Oil Change."
